our history
Canto wines came about when local owner Marinus Neethling had the opportunity to attain a piece of land in the picturesque Durbanville wine valley. Being an avid wine enthusiast, the quality of vineyards inspired what we have today as Canto boutique winery.
The Facility
With beautiful old dry land & low yielding vines, only the best rows of grapes are harvested to produce the Wooded Chardonnay, Merlot and MCC.
The state of the art tasting room is open for tastings Monday – Sunday, and with a fresh selection of cheeses, preserves and cold meats you can help yourself to a delectable variety of nibbles to enjoy on the patio with its view over the vineyards.
A very convenient location just outside of the Durbanvale residential area and together with its large inviting lawn – there is no reason to leave the children behind!
Our Vineyard
The farm is 18ha in size, and our vineyards are unique in the way that most of our wines come from old vines with small production and excellent quality. With the cool breezes from the Atlantic ocean keeping the climate mild, the ripening period is extended ensuring concentrated flavours in the grapes and resulting in wines with intense fruit. Rainfall is above average and together with the well drained soils with good water retention properties; there is no need to irrigate the vines.
Soils in the Durbanville are deep and nutrient rich which is a very favourable environment for root development.
